Are Cell Phones Becoming TOO Popular?
The other day I was in a foodcourt grabbing lunch and while waiting in line, I could help but look around me and observe how many people around me were doing something on their cell phone. People in line, people sitting down eating, people walking – TONS of them were on their phones.
And when you think about it, the phone has become a vital tool in many people’s lives. It’s something that I imagine many people would say they can’t live without.
I’m one of them, I’m not afraid to admit it
So has it gone TOO far?
Are cell phones now used for too much? Are people obsessed?
I’m not sure I would say that, but I will say that I think many people take for granted that they are secure when doing certain things on their phone. People have no problem banking, trading stocks, sending confidential messages etc.
And although I’m not “Techy” ebough to say if this is a problem, I do know that there have been cases of data interception from wireless waves. And I imagine that we will see cases of security breaches at some point.
Which leads me to believe that there will be more and more “security” tools for cell phones – antivirus tools and so on.
That said, I don’t want to scare people from using their smartphones. I’m an avid user and I love the freedom and flexibility that they offer. It’s pretty darn impressive.
However I will admit that for certain things if I can wait, I would rather do it from my personal computer that I know is fully secured. If I’m going to be dealing with a banking transaction or sending personal information then I may as well wait if I can.
Beyond security, one thing I have noticed is that people seem to be slightly less interactive now. Instead of making friendly small talk, people are more likely to fiddle away on their phone. This bothers me to a certain extent. I like friendly people!
What do you guys think?
